ELECTIONS!!!

We are having elections. I say, a week? Nominate yourself or others, and we will tally at the end of the week (Monday, December 8 when I wake up).

If you trust me, you can PM me, and I will announce it here and on the general page for our region so we can endorse the right person.

If people don't like the secret ballot type, we can just post and add to this thread. I promise to be honest!

can't you do a poll on this site? that seems a whole hell of a lot easier.

i don't know what your election process is like now, but when i used to play, we'd do a nomination process on the regional message board; anyone who got two nominations [& you couldn't nominate yourself] & then accepted the nomination was then added to the ballot.

there was then a second week for voting; this is when we created a country called 'the international affairs office of a socialist paradise,' to serve as the central repository for voting; but the fact that polls exist on this site makes the whole thing a lot better, i think!

once the nomination period is up, you could just start a thread with a poll, & let it be open for a week with the names of each candidate on it.

Well, I'm not probably tech savvy enough to do it, but a poll does sound best. Does that exist here? I would rather it so that it doesn't look like I'm choosing favorites. Can someone help?

(And obviously I know little about this forum even though I'm active...)

you'll have to make a new thread, but then there's an option for including a poll. there's a maximum of 10 choices you can include, so if there ends up being more than 10 candidates it won't work -- otherwise, it should work perfectly. it's really easy to set up, i promise.

this also means there would need to be a new topic started for each month's election, which is probably fine; makes it easy to look back on things, keeps new elections from getting lost in old threads, that kind of thing.

Potomania, what about the old weighting system of votes? Where WA(then UN) members votes were weighted so that 2 non-WA members equaled 1 WA member? How would that work on a poll?

mmmmmyeah. i guess there are two questions there.

1) do people want to weight the votes like that?
2) can a mod or the creator of the poll see who voted for what (to adjust tallies accordingly)?

Erm... I don't believe I can see the peoples votes. I tried with another poll we had.
We could do 2 polls, one for WA-members, one for Non-WA-members

if you can't see who's voting in them, how can you be sure that only wa-members are voting in the wa-poll? or that people aren't voting in both polls?

so what's the decision about weighting wa-member votes?

not going to do it, because it's too complicated? going to do it, but need a solution?

& is the voting going to be definitely on the forum rather than in-game?

just some questions to answer before monday, when the voting gets goin'.

Hmm...I like the idea of weighting, but we can't do that easily on the forum. Then again, those people who aren't on the offsite are unlikely to sign up just to vote, which really favors WA members and the more active "socialists".

I'm not sure what I prefer. It could encourage offsite registrations, but it may just mean that the four (or five) of us have complete say in the new leader. Maybe some people just like the game and don't want to be active on the forum?

I guess I just convinced myself that I think we should vote in game and give WA members two votes...Sometimes all it takes is 'talking' it out!

this is what caused the creation of "the international affairs office of a socialist paradise" -- so people just sent their votes in pm to that account, & there was a designated counter.

if y'all think that's a good idea, i can give the pw for the account to revo or whoever the vote-tallier should be; certainly someone who isn't on the ballot, but otherwise i don't think it matters much.

I'm easy going, whos standing, anyway? lol
