| I was trying to post a new reality post, and I wasn't able to. This time I did make sure I was logged in. Is there something wrong with that portion of the forum? I just needed to vent about the VP pick by McCain... | |

| Well, I still don't see the new post button, so I will rant here instead McCain is our Republican presidential candidate and the smart little booger picked a female vice-presidential candidate to help sway the female voters still upset that Hillary Clinton didn't get the Democratic nomination. It just means we are one step closer to another four years of hell. | |

| Actually, he is not as strong among black voters. He's "out of touch". Most will vote for him because they tend to be Democrats, but a lot were upset that Hillary Clinton didn't get the nomination. You're right, though, he does get the vote of the "smart people". Too bad that many can't even finish high school here! I just hope that enough women who are upset realize that both McCain and the VP candidate are against ALL abortions, no matter the circumstances. Unfortunately, there is a generation above me that doesn't need to care anymore, and they are the ones who fought for "women's rights". | |

| Without looking it up, I'm going for Melbourne. I have no idea the state. Now I'll go look it up because that will annoy me the rest of the day if I don't. And a good portion of the non-Western world has had a female leader as well. It makes me sad. | |

| Drat. It was Canberra. Let's play this game more. Actually, I absolutely hate trivia games. Typically females are worse than men at random facts because we focus on the context and history more than the random facts. Not that I know Australian history... | |

| In My Humbly Opinion, Hillary's a bitch. She doesn't deserve power. And she won't get it. McCain is too strong really, although Obama should win.You tell me it's sad not everyone finishes "even high school".Well, in Mexico there's about a 20% of the whole population, that doesn't know how to read, nor write. And there are senators too, who earn around 20,000 american dollars a month for chatting with other senators... There's a say, that goes "it's always better there, I'm not". | |

ahh Mcain you've done it again? Hahaha, i think i'm the only person here that'll get that coz im a fellow aussie!! But im gonna have to question your history; i dont think we've had a female prime minister, have we? We currently have a female deputy, but all our states have male premiers. In a few ways, we're still rather behind the game. UK were one of the first to the mark tho, with margaret thatcher voted in near 30 years ago

have to catch you on a technicality there; ACT is a territory, not a state. It doesn't have its own premier (governer in yankee speak) Sorry lol

| I could be rude and say it's because Australia doesn't matter on the international stage, but I'll keep that to myself What scares me more is that I saw more news about the US primary election while I was in South Africa than I did once I got back to the US. It depresses me that most foreigners can talk more intelligently about US politics than most of the people I meet on the street. | |

| No offense taken. I somewhat agree, though I think it isn't xenophobia as much as arrogance. I actually ended up with my college major because I had never really learned about Eastern Europe in school. But, yes, the US's time has come and gone. We just haven't realized it yet. | |

Perhaps that's why the only guys who ever want to date me here are the foreigners. They appreciate "true" beauty That and the fact theyre too busy watching NASCAR, drinking crap beer and shooting things to hear you talk your 'commie smart speak'. Or vote for that matter. Tho I'd have to say, the fact that in america voting isnt compulsory has to contribute a lot. I'll be honest, i couldntve told you a thing about aussie politics before i was voting age, and the big reason for that is i never thought about politics. Sure, theres a difference between not being able to vote and not needing to, but still. Oh, and jesusguy, i'm from sydney, botany to be exact

| That's actually a really good point Kalashnikova. If you have to vote it might make you think about the issues more thoroughly. Unfortunately, I'm not sure that would necessarily be the case here. The entire education system would need to be overhauled because we are almost isolationist in the way things are taught. We talk about other nations having inaccurate textbooks (been in the news regarding Iraq, of course), but I am always amazed at how many people say something and that's "what their teacher told them". I often "re-educate" relatively intelligent people on topics I am confident in my knowledge. I worry that an uneducated populace voting is worse than the majority of the populace voting based on unfounded ideas. So many people just accept what they are told by friends and family. How do you get them to think for themselves and vote the way they truly think best? | |
