| This could be REALLY fun and heated! (And now I have more posts than Jesus again?) It was started in the game, but that's not the best place for something like this... I'm personally agnostic. There's a born-again Christian in my office, and he always gives me and another a hard time about our lack of religion. He finally asked me directly why I was no longer Christian, and I told him I would never dare to think I was smart enough to know what (if anything) was out there. For once, he was speechless. Since then, he found out that I read the Bible front to back to make sure I agreed with the religion I was born with (and I don't), and he has gained an interesting amount of respect for me. I just can't bring myself to say I'm atheist since it's possible there's something out there. So...if anyone else cares to share... | |

| i'm an atheist.
i straight up do not believe something is out there. but i'm cool with educated opinions of any nature; some people i like & respect a whole lot are down with jesus, but they're not stupid about it. for instance, they believe in evolution & consider all the old bible stories to be parables, rather than fact.
you know, whatever floats your boat.

| &, while we're at it, a game to play: battleground god
my results: Congratulations! You have made it to the end of this activity.
You took zero direct hits and you bit zero bullets. The average player of this activity to date takes 1.39 hits and bites 1.10 bullets. 443578 people have so far undertaken this activity.
You have been awarded the TPM medal of honour! This is our highest award for outstanding service on the intellectual battleground.
The fact that you progressed through this activity neither being hit nor biting a bullet suggests that your beliefs about God are internally consistent and very well thought out.
A direct hit would have occurred had you answered in a way that implied a logical contradiction. You would have bitten bullets had you responded in ways that required that you held views that most people would have found strange, incredible or unpalatable. However, you avoided both these fates - and in doing so qualify for our highest award. A fine achievement!
fair warning though -- this game is written by philosophers, so some of their questions & conclusions will likely make you want to find the nearest philosopher & shank him.

| It ain't about religion, which is right or wrong etc, it is about faith. Religion is created by man, because of faith, religion can help people find their faith, but my opinion is that it is flawed because it is man made. I cannot agree with religion because it causes too much suffering, war, hatred, racism etc. Faith, is seperate to religion, I cannot even attempt to explain it, but it is about belief, not strictly about a God. Faith does not cause the ill effects that religion does, it creates, in my opinion, only goodness. I have no religion, but I have faith, faith in myself, faith that I will be the best that I can be. | |

| Well said, Burt! Religion was created to provide rules for society so that people acted in a certain way. They all say 'don't kill', 'don't steal', but they all leave room for interpretation. Thus, I can't say there isn't a 'god', just can't buy into religion. Perhaps my insomniac self didn't make that clear! | |

| Wonderful game Potomania! My results: "Congratulations! You have made it to the end of this activity. You took 1 direct hit and you have bitten 3 bullets. The average player of this activity to date takes 1.39 hits and bites 1.10 bullets. 443578 people have so far undertaken this activity." So, apparently my thoughts are "on the whole, consistent" (the hits), but I have some beliefs that others would think might contradict themselves (the bullets). Who the h--- cares if others think they are inconsistent...They're my beliefs! | |

well, i sure as hell don't care. but i've spent a lot of time around philosophers, & they're into that kind of crap. you don't even want to know some of the crazy shit they talk about. there's this girl who talks about time-traveling apples in a serious way -- but when you ask her what happens if one apple destroys the past version of itself? she tells you that can't happen. but it's okay for apples to travel through time.

| & i'll agree that it's religion that's really the cause of most problems.
i know i've seen dogma, burt -- but i can't remember basically anything that happens in it. i seem to recall being under a variety of influences when i watched that particular film . . . perhaps i should watch it again.

| I think you have to be under the influence in order to truly appreciate it. That, or just REALLY cynical (which I am). | |

| well, i believe that one of the influences was human & consequently rather distracting. drugs alone might've been just fine. all i remember about the movie is that god was a woman, which pleased the hell out of me. | |
