| Since I have been asked to help restart the activity on the forum, I used my walk to the office to think about what that could be. I then decided that perhaps the worldly socialists of NS might have traveled and could provide suggestions. I haven't been to Western Europe in ages (and little of it as an adult), so here's the chance for you to give me some fun finds in certain cities. I will spend more time in Barcelona than anywhere. I'm interested in the wine and food of Spain, and I also have never been to that particular country before. I will then have a few hours in Basel (I know, short and sweet), a day in Strasbourg, two days of wedding activities (not mine...a friend's), and then just the night hours in Paris (I think I'll be staying near the Eiffel tower...cheapest place I could find this morning). So, if you have any "must-see" things in Basel that I can do in between plane and train or fun night spots in Paris, I would love to hear them. I know I could go to other travel boards, but I'll start here and see what I get! (Oh, and that means I'll be inactive in a week and a half for about a week and a half...) | |

| Well, I once went to Paris, but I was around 9 years old, so I remember how big the Mona Lisa seemed to me, the Louvre from the outside, the russian bandits in the Eiffel Tower elevator saying one to the other "shut up, there's a child here" when I said something in russian to my parents and Euro-Disney, although if you're staying in Spain for such a long time you could make a quick visit to Portugal. I have been to Faro, a little town where my grampa lives (awesome town), Aveiro, a little town where I lived when I was around 3 years old and visited several times later because of my dads' congress's and Lisboa, although I don't quite remember anything really great about the city. Germany is kewl too..))) I know it slightly better..) | |

| Yeah, Germany and Austria were my last trips, though that was 8 years ago (I'm a bit older than you guys)...Unless you count Britain, which was still about 6 years ago. I've been doing more Caribbean and African travel these past few years. I didn't much like Vienna...seemed very stodgy, but when I went with my parents at the ripe age of 10, I do remember a trick garden that had water randomly shooting out from various things. A member of the royalty at the time was an apparent prankster. Like Griffin, the things you remember at that age are very interesting. I'll see if I have any great finds on my upcoming trip and post back here. If you want to go to Eastern Europe, I'm much better versed. I studied in Russia and Poland... I grew up in Texas and now live in "the capitol of the free world". | |

| WOW... Everyones so travelled! Ive only been holidaying in a couple countries in Europe, them being Austria twice, EuroDisney and Cyprus. If anyone goes skiing in 'BKK' or 'Serfaus, Fiss - Ladis' in Austria, Im your man! XD as for Cyprus, the south east (Ayia Napa, Protaras) is far better then the south western side (Paphos). Protaras is far less touristisc, and then you have the clubs of Ayia Napa. As for the UK, I am far more travelled, especially along the south coast, in Cornwall and Devon, and the New Forest areas. | |

| Ive only ever been to thailand, which is a bit of a novelty holiday if youre an aussie. Its a great place to see tho, but keep away from the zebra pedestrian crossings; theyre deathtraps. If youre gonna go, go around march for the Song Kran festival, its their new year, its a nationwide waterfight / rave all week!! But why would i go anywhere? I already live in the greatest country on the planet! | |

| I have yet to get to Asia because of the expense, but I'm hoping to one of these days. I have a friend doing her dissertation in Sri Lanka, so if I come into any money, I'm there! I work in international development (or at least did...). What better way to travel than on your company's money? I now work in education, but I'm trying to push my organization into more international work. Again, I love traveling for free! I always take a few days on either end (unless it's a horrible place) to travel for myself just because. The flight's the expense...Everything else is pittance. And, hahaha about the Antarctica remark. I think you can sense my sarcasm about being in Washington... | |

| I have returned from the great continent of Europe. I highly recommend the Alsatian region of France. However, the vineyards there are unlike the others I have found in other countries, and the wine tastings are not at the vineyards but at little stores in town. Eguisheim had the most options open when I was there, and that was on a Sunday. Catalan is much more different from Spanish than I realized. I could read the signs, but I had no ability to understand them speaking it. That is a great place to enjoy the cafe life of Mediterranean Europe. Those are my most basic thoughts. You should understand I have been up for way too many hours, so I'm sure I could elaborate. If anyone wants more, I can share further when I really wake up! | |

| That's why I said Alsace was a good region to visit; the people there are very nice and friendly. That is in comparison to Paris, where I generally have found people to be much less understanding of your not speaking French perfectly. They don't seem to understand that French is not a language of any use for most people... | |

| Its strange... the general view of Frenchies is that they are arrogant jerks, and they are in large groups, or in France, but when alone or in small groups, they are lovely people to deal with, 'specially the French lasses . And with me working in a supermarket, in the town known as 'Kent's hub to Europe', I get lots of them! | |
